We'll be serving the Roma people, a special community with a rich history and culture. You might have heard them called "gypsies" before, but that's a scar the Roma have learned to live with. On the contrary, the Roma people have their own language, flag, beautiful heritage, and even a national anthem! Sadly, unlike many European nations, they lack a homeland. They migrated from India centuries ago, bringing their talents to entertain in European castles (Slovakia actually boasts the most castles per capita!).

Despite their fascinating background, the Roma people have faced immense hardship. Like the Jewish people, they were persecuted during the World Wars. This struggle left them as the poorest population group in Europe. There's even a region in Slovakia nicknamed "the black hole of Europe" due to the high concentration of Roma people living there. On the contrary, we believe the Roma are the heart of Europe!

But here's the incredible part: in the midst of these challenges, God is working in a mighty way! For over two decades, the Roma people have been experiencing a spiritual awakening – a revival! It's a beautiful example of God using the minority to reach the majority, perfectly reflecting the kind of God we serve! This mission feels especially personal for our family. Dessa grew up in Slovakia. Her parents were the first missionaries from the Assemblies of God to the Roma people. As her own parents worked with Roma she fell in love with the country and its people. And I, Kevin, am a Roma! Together, we're eager to return to Slovakia as a family and contribute to this ongoing work of God.
